Why do you need a healthy vegetarian diet ? Don’t forget there is a crisis growing within our society that few are talking about and even fewer are even aware. One of the most popular health-related issues that people are concerned with is obesity. Many people have started to grow in terms of body mass and have gained weight at an alarming rate. Around half a century ago, many people had lower chances of becoming obese, but nowadays it is becoming exceedingly common.

One of the main reasons as to why obesity has become more common nowadays is due to the fact that there are many ways through which people can speed up their weight gain. Some people blame the fast food chains and other restaurants for selling to the market food laced with preservatives, saturated fats, and excessive amounts of carbohydrates. These food ingredients claim to be harmful in ones body when taken in excess. Aside from that, these ingredients also have the capacity to speedily increase the persons body weight because of its high concentration in a single meal alone.

If we took one day and analyzed all the stress we put on our nervous and digestive systems which affects the endocrine and circulatory systems respectably, we would most likely all be astonished at how we are able to maintain homeostasis ( internal stability such as blood sugar, blood pressure, electrolytes, and hormones ) within our bodies.

It is only when the body has been fighting this continuous up and down battle for so long and it ultimately starts to compensate in other areas when one system fails. This is when the body starts to unravel in the direction of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, metabolic disorders, autoimmune disorders, and ultimately Cancer.

Statistically speaking, it is believed that 67% of Americans are either overweight or obese. Degenerative diseases and the medications that come with them seem to now be the norm, whereas once they were the exception to the rule. The growing epidemic of obesity and the degenerative lifestyle diseases are now causing many health care professionals to give serious thought and attention to finding a solution.When it comes to keeping a balance within our bodies and mind, becoming a vegetarian can be one of the most important decisions of your life.

So What is a Vegetarian?

There are two types of people in the world with regards to their eating habit. They are vegetarian and non vegetarian. As the name suggests, vegetarians are those who live on only plants and fruits. Rather they eat vegetables, spinach, milk and fruits. They don’t touch meat. But the not vegetarians are just opposite to them. They rather prefer eating only meat. For example, they cannot live without having fishes of different varieties, chicken, mutton, lamb etc. Some of the people prefer having vegetable with meat. For example, a person can have rice, a curry with all green vegetables and meat. This would rather be a balance diet for a non vegetarian. Sometime people are vegetarian because of their religious belief. Some religion is strictly against eating non vegan items. According to them, eating a non vegan item will destroy their religious and cultural heritage. Thus an individual belonging to a specific religion which don’t accept eating meat should avoid being non vegetarian.

The Vegetarian Society defines a vegetarian by an “individual that lives off of grains, pulses, legumes, nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruits, fungi, algae, yeast and/or some other non-animal-based foods (eg salt) with, or without, dairy products, honey and/or eggs.”

1.Lacto-ovo-vegetarians: eat both dairy products and eggs

Why We Should Become a Vegetarian?

The positive results of eating a plant diet are well documented and usually result in lower saturated fats, cholesterol, and animal protein with increases in vitamins C & E, fiber, folic acid, magnesium, and other chemical compounds produced by fruits and veggies.Becoming vegetarian isn’t a mistake, it’s just a missed steak. Should we become a more peaceful person? I think so. There are 49 basic reasons why we should become a vegetarian.

Personal Health

1.No deficiencies. There is no nutrient necessary for optimal human functioning which cannot be obtained from plant food.

2.High fat plus cholesterol. Animal foods are higher in fat than most plant foods, particularly saturated fats. Plants do not contain cholesterol.

3.”Carb” deficient. Meat is deficient in carbohydrates, particularly the starches which are so essential to proper health.

4.Vitamin deficient. Except for the b-complex, meat is largely deficient in vitamins.

5.Agricultural Chemicals. Being higher on the food chain, animal foods contain far higher concentrations of agricultural chemicals than plant foods, including pesticides, herbicides, etc.

6.Exposure to livestock drugs. There are over 20,000 different drugs, including sterols, antibiotics, growth hormones and other veterinary drugs that are given to livestock animals. These drugs are consumed when animal foods are consumed. The dangers herein, in secondary consumption of antibiotics, are well documented.

7.Pathogenic Microorganisms. There are a host of bacteria and viruses, some quite dangerous, that are common to animals. When I eat meat, I eat the organisms in the meat. Micro-organisms are present in plant foods too, but their number and danger to human health is by no means comparable to that of those in meat.

The Environment

44.Conservation of Fossil fuel. It takes 78 calories of fossil fuel to produce 1 calorie of beef protein; 35 calories for 1 calorie of pork; 22 calories for 1 of poultry; but just 1 calorie of fossil fuel for 1 calorie of soybeans. By eating plant foods instead of animal foods, I help conserve our non-renewable sources of energy.

45.Water Conservation. It takes 3 to 15 times as much water to produce animal protein as it does plant protein. As a vegetarian I contribute to water conservation.

46.Efficient use of grains. It takes up to 16 pounds of soybeans and grains to produce 1 lb. of beef and 3 to 6 lbs. to produce 1 lb of turkey & egg. By eating grain foods directly, I make the food supply more efficient & that contributes to the environment.

47.Saving our forests. Tropical forests in Brazil and other tropic regions are destroyed daily, in part, to create more acreage to raise livestock. By not supporting the meat industry, I directly reduce the demand to pillage these irreplaceable treasures of nature. Since the forest land “filters” our air supply and contains botanical sources for new medicines, this destruction is irreversable.

48.Soil conservation. When grains & legumes are used more efficiently, our precious topsoil is automatically made more efficient in its use. We use less agricultural resources to provide for the same number of people.

49.Asthetics. Decaying animal parts, whether in a freezer case or served in restaurants, can never be as asthetically pleasing to the senses as the same foods made from wholesome vegetable sources. Only habit can allow one not to perceive this: a change in diet makes this self evident.

Make A Vegetarian Meal Plan and Stick with It!

When deciding to take on a vegetarian diet, the individual has different reasons for the lifestyle change but ultimately the results most often are very positive. When deciding to eat vegetarian, the plan needs to be well thought out with goals in place.

When changing to a vegetarian diet, one needs to continue appropriate consumption of iron, protein, calcium, zinc, and vitamin b12. If the plan is not well thought out and the individual decides to go “vegetarian” but still eats high fat and high sugar snacks; then there will obviously be less benefits with the new diet and maybe worse outcomes than before the diet even began.

Medical science had researched and found many facts about vegetarianism. According to them, being vegetarian is healthier. It is just because the vegetarian dishes are made up of plants. They don’t consume harmful ingredients that can cause us cancer or heart disease. If you are a vegetarian, you will hardly suffer from the diseases like obesity, kidney stones, gall stones, diabetes. Not to state the obvious, but what actually makes the vegetarian diet plan so special, is that it does not contain animal products (at least that is true for total, or what’s commonly known as vegan vegetarians). Therefore, upon adopting this eating lifestyle, a major source of fat in the diet is instantly eliminated. This puts one who wants to lose weight, prevent, and even reverse degenerative diseases at a great advantage. Additionally, not only is vegetarian food lower in fat, but its also higher in fiber and richer in many vitamins and minerals which again equates to better health and weight management.

Numerous studies have confirmed that people with vegetarian or near-vegetarian traditions have lower rates of heart disease, obesity, cancer, and diabetes than individuals that consume the typical North American diet or what is commonly called the S.A.D. (Standard American Diet) diet. National Geographic searched and interviewed individuals within communities or groups that could boast of having the longest life expectancies in the world. Their research concluded that the Okinawans of Japan, The Sardinians of Italy, and the Seventh-day Adventist (a Christian denomination) of Loma Linda, California were all recognized for their long life expectancy and healthy lifestyle practices. It was interesting to note that each of these groups also practice vegetarian or near-vegetarian traditions and lifestyles. They also discovered that vegetarianism often accompanies other healthy lifestyle practices such as no smoking, lower alcohol intakes, family and spiritual emphasis, and community involvement.

Furthermore, those that become informed vegetarians (vegetarians that have not only adopted the diet, but have become educated in vegetarian healthy lifestyle practices) have even a greater likelihood to be at their ideal weights, have lower blood pressures, lower blood cholesterol levels, lower incidences of cancer, better digestion, and a list of other health benefits. Even when compared to health conscious non-vegetarians, vegetarians experience fewer deaths related to degenerative diseases.

In conclusion, when investigating possible solutions to the problem of increasing obesity and health-related degenerative diseases within our society, the answer doesn’t lie in increased health care, but in increased preventative health care. The solution wont be found in a health insurance plan, but in a health assurance plan. The answer and solution can be found in the vegetarian diet plan.
